On Thursday July 14th, 2011 at 1046hrs South Shore Fire & Rescue and Mt. Pleasant Police were called to Sheridan Road and Lakewood Avenue after receiving a report of a motorcycle accident.
Upon arrival MED 7 for found a 26-year-old man lying in the street suffering a severe leg injury and requested Flight for Life to the scene.
A landing zone was set up on a field adjacent to the Racine County Opportunity Center.
The injured man was transported via ambulance a few blocks from the accident scene to the landing zone where the care of the patient was transferred to a Flight for Life crew.
The patient was flown to Froedtert Hospital on Wauwatosa for treatment of a compound fracture, lacerations and a head injury.
According to police the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass a turning truck when he struck the rear of it. The driver of the truck, age 53 was not injured. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet. Police said excessive speed contributed to the crash and that citations are pending.
South Shore Fire & Rescue units on scene included: MED 7, Engine 9, Battalion 8, Car 18 and Car 8.
The Mt. Pleasant Police was assisted at the scene by the Racine County Sheriffs Department.
