On Sunday afternoon October 31st, 2010 at 1513hrs South Shore Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a report of a PI accident at the intersections of Highway 32 and Highway 11 which is under construction.
Upon arrival Rescue 132 reported a single vehicle accident with heavy damage and two people trapped needing extrication.
As firefighters worked to extricate a man and woman from a 2003 Dodge Intrepid two Flight for Life helicopters were requested to the scene.
A 48-year-old male driver was extricated first and flown from the scene to Froedert Hospital. The passenger, a 46-year-old woman was transported via Rescue 132 to Wheaton Franciscan - All Saint's Hospital where she was then also flown to Froedert Hospital.
According to Mt. Pleasant Police, the operator of the vehicle was driving northbound on Highway 32 in the southbound lane when he lost control of the vehicle, slid sideways into a gravel covered intersection which is under construction and crashed into a retaining wall.
The crash remains under investigation.
