Raymond Fire & Rescue - MABAS 2nd Alarm - 3800 blk 68th Street - December 14th, 2010 : On Tuesday December 14th, 2010 at approximately 1800hrs a passing motorist noticed flames shooting out of a chimney on a home in the 3800 block of 68th Street in the Town of Raymond and called 911. The fire had already begun extending into the 2nd floor of the home before firefighters arrived. As fire crews initiated a fire attack Raymond Command requested a MABAS Box to the 2nd Alarm level which brought firefighters from Racine and Milwaukee counties to the scene. The homeowner, a 70-year-old woman was transported from the scene via Raymond Rescue for difficulty breathing to a Racine area hospital. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours in a temperature of 7-degrees. The blaze caused severe damage to the home. Cudahy Fire Department - MABAS 4th Alarm - 4728 S. Packard Avenue - November 30th, 2010 : Four rescued from fire above Cudahy print shop By Jesse Garza of the Journal Sentinel Cudahy — A four-alarm fire above a downtown print shop late Tuesday sent four people to the hospital with smoke inhalation, a Cudahy fire official said. Fire Chief Dan Mayer said the fire was reported shortly before 10 p.m. on the second floor above Tiprint Inc., a print shop on the 4700 block of S. Packard Ave. Firefighters rescued four people who were trapped inside of the building, one of whom guided them to her location by phone, Mayer said. The building did not appear to have working smoke detectors and the outcome could have been much worse, Mayer said. "If the occupants had been sleeping, they might not have become aware of the fire," Mayer said. The origin of the fire might have been a candle, Mayer said. No damage estimate was available late Tuesday. Firefighters from other communities were called in as a precaution because of the rescue operation and because the fire could have easily spread to other buildings, Mayer said. Union Grove - Yorkville Fire & Rescue - EF-1 Tornado Touch Down - November 22nd, 2010 : Rare November tornadoes strike Walworth, Racine counties By Meg Jones of the Journal Sentinel Union Grove — Two days before Thanksgiving, residents of Union Grove cleaned up from a freak November tornado that peeled off roofs, felled trees and scattered yellow insulation like cotton candy. The sounds of chain saws and wood chippers could be heard Tuesday morning throughout the community of 4,700 as folks picked up the debris from their lawns, filled numerous trash cans and loaded up on unexpected firewood that came courtesy of an EF-1 twister that swirled through Racine County on Monday afternoon. Another twister hit Walworth County. Racine County Executive William McReynolds declared a state of emergency, paving the way for the possibility of requesting disaster relief. No serious injuries were reported. No damage estimate was available Tuesday. The tornado formed on the Racine / Kenosha County line at the intersection of County Road KR and 224th Ave. about 4 p.m. and moved northeast for 11.5 miles before disintegrating in Racine County near the intersection of county Highways K and H at 4:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The width of the stove pipe-like tornado was 100 yards. Sections of Interstate 94 in Racine County were closed because of debris.

South Shore Fire & Rescue - Extrication Accident with Flight for Life called - E. Frontage Road & I 94 - November 8th, 2010 : On Monday afternoon November 8th, 2010 at 1215hrs South Shore Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a report of a rollover PI accident on the E. frontage Road of Interstate 94 south of Highway 20. Upon arrival Rescue 136 reported a single vehicle accident with a car into a freeway information sign with one person trapped needing extrication. As firefighters worked to extricate a woman from a Honda vehicle a Flight for Life helicopter were requested to the scene. A female driver was extricated and flown from the scene to Froedert Hospital. According to the Racine County Sheriffs Department the woman lost control of her vehicle on the E. Frontage Road south of Highway 20, over corrected and crashed into a large highway information sign . South Shore Fire & Rescue - Extrication Accident with Flight for Life called - Highways 32 &11 - October 31st, 2010 : On Sunday afternoon October 31st, 2010 at 1513hrs South Shore Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a report of a PI accident at the intersections of Highway 32 and Highway 11 which is under construction. Upon arrival Rescue 132 reported a single vehicle accident with heavy damage and two people trapped needing extrication. As firefighters worked to extricate a man and woman from a 2003 Dodge Intrepid two Flight for Life helicopters were requested to the scene. A 48-year-old male driver was extricated first and flown from the scene to Froedert Hospital. The passenger, a 46-year-old woman was transported via Rescue 132 to Wheaton Franciscan - All Saint's Hospital where she was then also flown to Froedert Hospital. According to Mt. Pleasant Police, the operator of the vehicle was driving northbound on Highway 32 in the southbound lane when he lost control of the vehicle, slid sideways into a gravel covered intersection which is under construction and crashed into a retaining wall. The crash remains under investigation. South Shore Fire & Rescue - Reported Structure Fire - Paradise West Bowling Alley - October 20th, 2010 : South Shore firefighters were called at approximately 2140hrs to a report of a structure fire at Paradise West Bowling Alley at 6501 Washington Avenue on Wednesday night October 20th, 2010. Upon arrival firefighters found the structure being evacuated and a fire in a mechanical area being held in check via the building sprinkler system. Fire crews were able to put out the fire quickly and then worked on removing smoke from the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is belived to be accidental in nature involving cooking materials and propane tanks however substanial damage did occure to the wooden bowling lanes. South Shore Fire & Rescue - Flight for Life Call - Village of Mt. Pleasant - October 3rd, 2010 : On Sunday afternoon October 3rd, 2010 at approximetly 1300hrs South Shore Fire & Rescue requested Flight for Life to respond to a Cul-de-sac on the southside of the Village of Mt. Pleasant after a man was injured on a nearby property. Rescue 132 transported a person from the property to the landing zone where the person was transfered to the care of the Flight for Life crew. The person was flown to a Milwaukee area hospital for treatment of unknow injuries. Units on scene included Engine 121, Rescue 132, Car 140 (Fire Chief) and Car 141 (Command). South Shore Fire & Rescue was assited at the scene and landing zone by officers from the My. Pleasant Police Department.

Racine Fire Department - Technical Rescue - Sixth Street & Main Street - October 2nd, 2010 : Ferris wheel breaks down; 17 stranded for three hours By Tom Kertscher of the Journal Sentinel Racine - Seventeen people spent three hours Saturday stuck on a malfunctioning Ferris wheel, chilled by high winds and intermittent rain and waiting to be rescued, Mayor John Dickert said. "They were pretty cold. We got them blankets, but we couldn't get them off until we stabilized it," Dickert said from the scene. The amusement ride was part of the attractions at Party on the Pavement, a downtown street festival just off the lakefront. "Somebody heard a very loud noise and there was little jolt in the whole structure and then it stopped. At least that's what eyewitnesses told us," Dickert said. The ride stopped about 12:30 p.m. and the rescue wasn't complete until about 3:30 p.m., Dickert said. The main problem was that the structure needed to be stabilized with front-end loaders before firefighters used ladders to remove the riders, many of whom were children. Journal Sentinel correspondent Tim Stein contributed to this report. Racine Fire Units on scene included Engine 1, Truck 1, Special Teams 1, Rescue 1, Rescue 2, Rescue 6, Rescue 8, Car 43 Safety Officer and Car 41 Command. South Shore Fire & Rescue - MABAS Box Alarm - 4242 Sheridan Road - October 1st 2010 : South Shore firefighters were called at approximately 2210hrs to a report of smoke showing from a vacant home at 4242 Sheridan Road on Friday night October 1st, 2010. Engine 122 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing from a two-story residence and advised incoming units that they were stretching to attack. While Enroute Command 141 requested MABAS Box Alarm 100-11 to the Box Level which brought to the scene Somers Engine 6311, Racine Truck 1 and Caledonia Chief 241 to the scene. Fire crews battled the fire for approximately 25 minutes before bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Union Grove - Yorkville Fire & Rescue - Building Fire - 1560-15th Avenue - September 6th, 2010 : At 1817hrs Union Grove Fire & Rescue, Kansasville Fire and Raymond Fire & Rescue were dispatched to report of an industrial building fire on 15th Avenue & York Street in Union Grove. Upon arrival smoke was showing from a two story building in the multi building complex that had been abandoned and had last was occupied by Absolute Distributors Inc, 1560-15th Avenue. The fire was held in check by the building sprinkler system however firefighters battled the blaze for approximetly two hours after the fire got into the buildings membrane roof. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force. Fire Departments on scene included Union Grove Fire & Rescue, Kansasville Fire, Raymond Fire & Rescue and the City of Burlington Fire Department. A Rehab Support Unit was also on scene providing a Rehab Area for fire crews.

Kenosha Fire Department - Working Fire - Walgreen's 3820-52nd Street - July 30th, 2010 : A fire at a Kenosha Walgreens about 1:07 a.m. Friday reportedly caused a total loss to the building’s contents. Kenosha Fire Department officials said a representative of the store, 3820 52nd St., said all items inside were considered destroyed, apparently because of heavy water damage from fighting the fire and from smoke. No damage estimate was available. No cause had been determined as of Friday afternoon. Patrick Ryan, the department’s chief of the fire prevention bureau, said there was nothing to suggest arson. However, Ryan said the cause remains under investigation. The fire apparently began in or near the canopy of the store’s drive-through window, he said. “There was a lot of smoke on our arrival,” Ryan said. “There was fire coming out of a portion of the roof above the drive-through canopy.” He said the fire burst through the west side of the canopy and dropped to its bottom. The fire also reached the soffet of the roof. It was extinguished in about 20 minutes. Damage was contained to the canopy. The building was not damaged. The store was closed. Jim Cohn, a Walgreens corporate spokesman, said customers who had prescriptions at the 52nd Street store could have them filled at any other Walgreens. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

South Shore Command 141 arrived on scene and reported light smoke showing from a two-story residence and requested Truck 253 from Caledonia to respond to the incident. Engine 123 arrived on scene and its crew advanced an 1-3/4" attack line into the structure while arriving performed a seach and ventilated the home. Command 141 requested MABAS Box Alarm 100-11 to the Box Level which brought to the scene Somers Engine 6311 and a Chief, Racine Quint 7 (Cancelled Enroute) and Caledonia Chief 241 to the scene. The cause of the fire and a damage estimated were unavailible. Units on scene included; South Shore Engines 121, 122 and 123. Rescue 134. Car 141 Command Car 144 Car 140 Fire Chief. South Shore Fire & Rescue - Tanker Rollover - Highway 20 & Case Overpass - July 20th, 2010 : South Shore firefighters and Caledonia Paramedics were called to a report of an over turned tanker truck containing approximately 2000-gallons of waste motor oil and antifreeze Tuesday afternoon July 20th, 2010. The driver of the truck escaped injury and told police that he was cut off by a vehicle that failed to yield to oncoming traffic from the eastbound ramp entering Highway 20 in a construction area in the Village of Mt. Pleasant. The accident closed the highway both east and west bound for several hours as crews worked to empty the tanker and upright the truck. The South Shore Fire Department was assited at the scene by Caledonia Paramedics, the Village of Mt. Pleasant Police Department, the Racine County Sheriffs Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Wisconsin DNR and the Racine County Emergency Goverment.

The two injured employees at the Appleton Electric foundry were transported to a hospital and the status of their injuries is unknown, said Fire Captain James Dorangrichia. Appleton Electric officials evacuated the plant, located near 5th St. and Milwaukee Ave, prior to the Fire Department's arrival and later, homes on Michigan Ave. were also evacuated, Dorangrichia said. Twelve other departments were called to the scene, and shortly before 3 a.m. the fire had been contained to a small area in one of the plant's multiple buildings, Dorangrichia said. "Foundry fires are extremely dangerous," Dorangrichia said. "If you put water in the wrong place, you can cause a significant explosion." The cause of the fire is unknown, but Dorangrichia said it started during one of the company's routine processes. South Milwaukee firefighters were assited on scene by firefighters from Cudahy, St. Francis, Oak Creek, Franklin, Greenfield, Greendale, West Allis, Caledonia, Wauwatosa and General Mitchell International Airport. Caledonia Fire & Rescue - Officer Involved Shooting - April 26th, 2010 - Highway 32 / 7 Mile Road : Oak Creek police shoot, kill suspect By Ryan Haggerty of the Journal Sentinel Posted: April 26, 2010 Oak Creek — Oak Creek police officers shot and killed a 48-year-old man Monday morning after the man crashed his car into a building while leading police on a chase, then jumped into the driver's seat of an unoccupied police SUV and struck an officer with the vehicle, police officials said. Police identified the man Monday night as Johnny Harris of Racine. According to police: The incident began about 7:30 a.m. when a person who lives on E. Elm Road near state Highway 32 called police and said a suspicious man, later identified as Harris, had come to the door and asked if someone at the home had posted an item online advertising vehicle rims for sale. Police later learned that another home on E. Elm Road had been burglarized sometime before 7:30 a.m. Investigators believe Harris was responsible for that burglary, in which a hunting bow was stolen, and was knocking on doors looking for more unoccupied homes to burglarize. Harris has a criminal record that includes burglaries, Oak Creek Police Chief Thomas Bauer said. Two officers in separate vehicles were sent to the neighborhood to investigate the report of a suspicious person. One of the officers saw a black Cadillac sedan matching the description of the car Harris was driving. Harris didn't stop when the officer tried to pull him over, and sped south on Highway 32 into Caledonia. Harris eventually lost control of the Cadillac, which smashed through the door of a building on the southwest corner of Highway 32 and 7 Mile Road. The Cadillac became lodged in the building. Harris jumped out and ran around the back of the building. The first officer on the scene left his SUV running and ran after Harris. The officer did not see Harris behind the building, so he ran back to the front of the building, where he saw Harris in the driver's seat of the police SUV. By that time, another Oak Creek officer had arrived. Both officers - one on either side of the vehicle - ordered Harris to get out, but he struck one of the officers twice with the SUV. Both officers then fired shots into the SUV. Harris was taken to a hospital in Racine, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators do not believe he was armed, but a shotgun and other weapons were in the police SUV, Bauer said. The officer who was struck by the SUV was treated for his injuries and released. The driver's side window of the police SUV was shattered, and the SUV wound up with its front end in a ditch in front of the building where the chase ended. Police investigating the incident will review video taken by cameras mounted in police vehicles, Bauer said. Four civilian witnesses verified the officers' accounts of the incident, he said. Both officers who fired shots - a man who has been an Oak Creek officer for 14 years and another man who has been an Oak Creek officer for four years but has been a law enforcement officer for at least 10 years - have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a police shooting. Officers Walter Pendzich and Dean Kleinhans will not face disciplinary actions in the death April 26 of Johnny Harris, according to the Oak Creek Police Department. Harris, 48, of Racine, led officers on a chase after reports that a man, later identified as Harris, might have been casing burglary targets in the area of E. Elm Road near state Highway 32. When police tried to pull over the car Harris was driving he sped south on into Caledonia, where he crashed through the door of a building. Harris left the car and got into a running, unoccupied police SUV and again tried to flee when Pendzich and Kleinhans, one on each side of the vehicle, ordered him to get out. When Harris struck Pendzich both officers shot into the SUV, according to Oak Creek police. Harris, who was not armed, was pronounced dead at the scene. Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, concluded the actions of the officers, "were a reasonable and privileged use of force under the circumstances," according to a news release from Oak Creek Police.

The other driver was taken to Wheaton Franciscan hospital in Franklin after the crash, reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. on I-94 just north of the County Highway G overpass, according to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff's Department. According to the release, a southbound tractor trailer rolled onto its side, pushing a median construction barrier wall into the northbound lane, which caused a collision involving another tractor trailer, a tanker semi and a car. The injured drivers were operating the tractor trailers, according to the release that did not include information on their conditions. Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed until about 8 p.m., according to the release. Agencies on scene included Raymond Fire & Rescue, Caledonia Fire & Rescue, Union Grove/Yorkville Fire & Rescue, Racine Sheriffs Department, Wisconsin State Patro; and Caledoina Police Department.

City of Cudahy - Technical Rescue - 6200 blk S. Lake Drive - May 2nd, 2010 : On Sunday night May 2nd, 2010 at approximetly 2026hrs members of the Cudahy Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a vehicle over a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan in the 6200 blk of S. Lake Drive. When firefighters arrived they found a Dodge Ram truck approximetly 70' down a bluff bogged down in heavy mud with a person trapped in the vehicle. As fire crews worked to free the trapped driver a Special Call was made at 2029hrs for an Engine from the St. Francis Fire Department to set up a Landing Zone for Flight for Life in the parking lot of St. Luke's South Shore Hospital down the street from the incident. A Full Assignment was requested at 2046hrs which brought firefighters from St. Francis, South Milwaukee, Franklin and Greenfield to the scene to assist with extrication and manpower to bring the victim up the bluff. Firefighters completed extrication of the victim and brought him up the bluff at 2212hrs where the patient was turned over to a crew from Flight for Life at which time he was flown to a Trauma Center in Milwaukee County.

Caledonia Fire & Rescue - Working Still Alarm - 4705 Bluffside Drive - April 21st, 2010 : On Wednesday evening on April 21st, 2010 at approximetly 1752hrs members of Caledonia Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a report of a house fire at 4705 Bluffside Drive. Truck 252 arrived on scene and reported two story home (Later determined to be a tri-level) with smoke showing and took a position in the driveway and pulled a line while firefighters from Engine 221 prepared a 5" supply line to feed into Truck 252 and South Shore crews from Pumper/Tanker 163 dropped a porta tank for incoming tankers as this are was not hydranted. Command 241 arrived on scene and requested MABAS Division 102 to activate their MABAS Card 200-42 to the working still level which brought to the incident a Truck and Chief from South Shore, an Engine from Racine, a Tanker from Raymond and a BLS Ambulance from Oak Creek. Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour before bringing the fire under control which is beleived to have originated in a second floor bedroom and extended into the attic space. Fire Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire which caused $150,000 in damage. Fire & Rescue units on scene included: Caledonia Fire & Rescue Engine 221, Truck 252, Command 241 and Chief 240. South Shore Fire & Rescue Pumper/Tanker 163, Truck 151 and Chief 141. Caledonia Fire & Rescue - PI Accident/Extrication - Highway's K & V - April 1st, 2010 : Caledonia and South Shore firefighters work to extricate an elderly woman from her car Thursday morning April 1st, 2010 around 11:15 a.m. following a semi vs. car accident at the intersection of Highways K and V in the Village of Caledonia in Racine County. Flight for Life was originally called to the scene to transport the seriously injured woman however it was then diverted to Wheaton – All Saint’s Hospital in Racine. Fire crews worked for approximately 25 minutes before they were able to free the trapped woman who then was transported to the hospital by rescue squad. The driver of the semi claimed no injuries. As a result of the accident diesel fuel was leaking from the semi and fire crews contained the leak. The Racine County Sheriffs Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and Caledonia Police were on scene investigating the crash. Paris Fire & Rescue - MABAS 2nd Alarm - 1036-172nd Avenue - March 23rd, 2010 : On Tuesday morning March 23rd, 2010 at approximetly 1120hrs firefighters from Somers, Pleasant Prairie and Bristol responded to an ARA (Automatic Reciprical Aid) Call to assist the Paris Fire & Rescue Department with a reported fully involved barn at 1036 172nd Avenue. As units started to respond a large loom up was visable for miles from the area of the call which prompted command to activate MABAS Box 55-2 to the 2nd Alarm level. Arriving firefighters found a medium size metal barn fully involved in fire and pulled attack lines to start extinguishment. A portable tank was dropped at the end of the driveway with a Paris Pumper /Tanker supplying attack lines and Kenosha Truck 7. The blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes however fire crews remained on scene extinguishing hot spots with the assistance of an excavator which was brought in. According to a Kenosha County Sheriffs Office Press Release the fire caused an estimated $80,000 damage and remains under investigation however it does not appear suspecious in nature. An estimated fifteen fire departments responded to the incident from Kenosha and Racine Counties in Wisconsin and Lake County Illinois.

Caledonia Fire & Rescue - PI Accident - Highway 38 & 7 Mile Road - March 21st, 2010 : On Sunday evening March 21st, 2010 at approximately 1825hrs members of Caledonia Fire & Rescue Station's 1 & 3 were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in a ditch full of water with a man trying two remove two children from the vehicle on Highway 38 & 7 Mile Road. Upon arriving on scene firefighters found a mini van in a ditch full with water and used a roof ladder to help a man and two children out of the van to the shoulder of the roadway. Paramedics assited the three individuals to a rescue squad where they were checked for injuries. It is unknown if anyone was transported to a hospital for treatment. Emergency units on scene included Engine 221, Rescue 233 (ALS) and Car 241 Command. Caledonia Police are investigating the accident.

Somers Fire & Rescue - Fuel Tanker Rollover/Spill - 2600 blk Highway 31 - March 12th, 2010 : On Friday morning March 12th, 2010 at approximately 0305hrs members of Somers Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a reported semi truck overturned in the 2600 block of Highway 31 (S. Greenbay Road). Upon arriving on scene it was discovered that the overturned semi was blocking the entire southbound lanes and that it was actually a tanker truck carrying over 7000 gallons of diesel fuel and the fuel was leaking onto the highway and into a ditch. Emergency crews removed the driver from the truck and he was transported a local hospital with minor injuries. Somers firefighters contained the leaking fuel and requested the Kenosha County Hazmat Team to the scene to assist with the incident. As daylight started to beak a request was made for the City of Racine Regional Hazmat Team to respond to place booms further south of the incident were diesel fuel made it to a waterway. Shortly after requesting Racine Hazmat, command Requested MABAS Box 63-3 to the Box Alarm Level to assist with manpower. Shortly after 0800hrs a Tow company used three tow trucks to upright the overturned tanker without further incident. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours working to further contain the leaked diesel fuel. The highway which is a major roadway between Racine and Kenosha Counties was shut down until approximately 1600hrs when a few lanes were reopened. South Shore Fire & Rescue - MABAS Box Alarm - 13237 Old Highway 11 - February 20th, 2010 : On Saturday afternoon February 20th, 2010 at approximetly 1435hrs members of South Shore Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a house fire at 13205 Old Highway 11. As units started to respond a large loom up was visable from the area of the call which prompted command to activate MABAS Box 100-12 to the Box Alarm level Command Car 141 arrived first on scene and found a ranch home well involved which was relayed to responding units. Truck 154 arrived and took a position in front of the home and pulled a line and attacked the fire while second in Engine 121 dropped a porta tank for incoming Tenders. While fighting the fire it determined that the homes occupants were not at home however two dogs and two cats were inside the home. Once the fire was controlled firefighters located two cats and a dog in the home which were brought outside and Caledonia Paramedics used pet oxygen masks to revive one cat and one dog which survived. The second dog had escaped the home by itself and the second cat perished. A Fire Investigator was called in to determine the cause of the blaze. South Shore Fire & Rescue - MABAS Box Alarm - 10106 Braun Road - February 19th, 2010 : On Friday afternoon February 19th, 2010 at approximetly 1453hrs members of South Shore Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a reported garage on fire at 10106 Braun Road. As units started to respond a large loom up was visable from the area of the call which prompted command to activate MABAS Box 100-12 to the Box Alarm level for Tenders only. Command Car 141 arrived first on scene and found a garage fully involved which was relayed to responding units. Engine 126 arrived and took a position in the driveway and pulled a line and attacked the fire while second in Engine 121 pulled a second line from Engine 126. Pumper/Tanker 163 arrived and set up a drop tank near the driveway and supplied Engine 126. While fighting the fire it was learned that a 10-lb propane cylinder and several gas cans were within the structure at which time the Safety Officer and Command ordered all crews to back away. Once the fire was controlled firefighters operated a foam line into the structure and soaked everything down. A Fire Investigator was called in to determine the cause of the blaze. Fire & Rescue units on scene included: South Shore Fire & Rescue Engines 121 and 126, Trucks 151 and 154, Pumper/Tanker 163, Rescue 135 (ALS), Command 141, Chief 140 and Assistant Chief 144.
