On Wednesday evening March 18, 2009 at 1828hrs a General Alarm was sounded for a report of a gas grill on fire which spread to the deck of a home at 1544 Deane Blvd.
Companies responding on the alarm were Engines 6 & 9, Quint 7, Rescue 7 (ALS) and Car 41 (Battalion Chief).
Engine 6 arrived on scene and reported a working fire with flames running up the side of a two story wood frame home and that they were pulling an attack line.
With the report of a working fire Car 41 (Battalion Chief) requested Truck 1 to the scene as the Rapid Intervention Team.
Firefighters extinguished the burning side of the home within minutes and a check of the attic and interior of the residence for extension proved negative.
A fire investigator (Utility 2) was called to the scene and reported that a young man was grilling on a gas grill when he had a flare up which he thought he had controlled. He then noticed spot fires on the deck which spread to the exterior wall of the rear of the home.
The fire was contained to the exterior of the home and the rear porch.
Damage to the structure and contents listed at $3,000.
No injuries were reported.
