On Tuesday afternoon March 24th, 2009 at 1513hrs a General Alarm was sounded for the neon sign on fire at Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon; 5880 Durand Avenue.
Companies responding on the General Alarm were Engines 6 & 9, Quint 7, Rescue 7, Car 43 Safety Officer and Car 41 (Battalion Chief).
Engine 9 arrived on scene and reported fire showing from the front facade/neon light area of the resturant and called a working fire and advanced an 1/3/4 attack line and hit the fire knocking it down on the exterior of the building.
The crew of Rescue 7 checked the building for occupants and reported water had made it into the interior of establishment while the crew of Quint 7 raised their 75' ladder to the facade and started opening it up checking for extention.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
A fire investigator (Utility 2) was called to the scene and reported the cause of the fire to have been an electrical problem with the sign or wiring ignited the exterior facade and framing. The fire was confined to that area.
Damage has been estimated at $10,000.
